Historic Sand Yachts Meeting 2024
Thursday 5, Friday 6, Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 September 2024
During the first weekend of September we go back in time and bring together the international heritage of historic sand yachts on the beach of De Panne.
In Belgium and other countries, owners and pilots of historic yachts have lovingly renovated, repainted and upgraded to revive the grandeur of sand yachting.
Sand yachting is not just going faster than the wind; it is also about strolling on the beach in the bright sun, having a nice chat with the co-pilot, and enjoying the beach and nature. 'Dolce far niente' at the Westhoek, the most beautiful corner of Belgium.
Program :
Thursday September 5 (Low Tide: 9.46 AM and 10.11 PM)
- 7:30 PM - 10:00 PM Sand Yachting at the setting sun, strolling on the beach à la 1924
Friday September 6 (Low Tide: 10.12 AM and 10.38 PM)
- 09.00 - 13.00 Free sailing and strolling on the beach.
- 13.00 - 17.00 Relaxation at the club.
- 20.00 Potluck BBQ Jojo B94
Zaterdag 7 september (Laag Water: 10.37 AM)
- 09.00 -12.00 AM Historic Race
- 12.00 - 1.00 PM Circuit sailing near the club. Possibility for interested parties to sail as a passenger in double seater yachts
- 2:00 PM Set-up of the Historic sand yachts at the sand yacht center & assessment by an expert jury for the awarding of the 'Golden Wheel' trophy
- 7:00 PM Presentation of the 'The Golden Wheel' challenge trophy for the most beautifully renovated sailing wagon.
Elevation to Knighthood of persons who have made a special contribution to the preservation of the national and international heritage of sand yachting or who exhibit a 25 year old or older sand yacht in sailable condition. - 20.00 Dinner Sailor Steak (Participants & members)
Sunday September 8 (Low Tide: 11.05 AM)
- 9.00 - 14.00 Historic Races
- 3:00 PM Awards ceremony and farewell drink
Participation conditions:
- Interested participants with a sand yacht are requested to register as soon as possible for organizational reasons.
- Sand yachts of 25 years old or older, in good technical condition.
- Participants must have an Elementary license and be sufficiently skilled to drive their sand yacht.
- They must be members of a club and be insured for the practice of sand yachting.
- If a car is borrowed, the instructions of the owner-lender must be followed closely.
- One must always wait until the other beach users leave the beach and until there is sufficient space before sailing.

FOREIGN PILOTS WITH HISTORIC SAND YACHT
For non-Belgian participants with a renovated sand yacht from abroad, the club has provided a limited number of free overnight stays in some hotels in De Panne. Please register for this at rsyc100@rsyc.be, GSM 0484 277 105.
